you can almost sense the next move- full of full-on whirling energy. Another thought about the energy of drawings- they capture the energy of the idea, while paintings (in my case, your case, too?) tend to be the polished version of the idea. I suppose one way around the energy issue would be to do everything in the final medium, including sketch. But the reality is, that just ain't me, & probably, that ain't you either (?)

apart from the energy, i very much like how the figures emerge from the background as if they originate there and possess the same structure. i often try to acheive this by applying textures to photographs - the idea that we're one with what surrounds us.

Yes, I thik it's something I do naturally, perhaps you do too.
I feel it's important to integrate all the elements of a composition and the background should be as important as anything else.
